Tracing the Roots of Guru Nanak Food Bank
Guru Nanak Food Bank's Story
Guru Nanak Food Bank, rooted in the profound teachings of Sikhism, emerged from a vision to embody its teachings of selfless service. In 2020, during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gyani Narinder Singh Ji, President of Gurdwara Sahib Dukh Nivaran Sahib Society Surrey BC Canada, initiated a free grocery distribution service. Witnessing the pressing needs of the community, Gyani Ji envisioned a lasting solution—Guru Nanak Food Bank. Established on July 1, 2020, under the guidance of a dedicated board of directors, the food bank embodies the Sikh spirit of "Recognising all human races as One." Gyani Ji's unwavering devotion has etched Guru Nanak Food Bank's name globally, symbolizing a beacon of compassionate service.
How GNFB Supports the Community
Guru Nanak Food Bank stands as a pillar of support, embracing a comprehensive approach to community well-being. Our commitment extends beyond distributing necessary and healthy food; we provide essential groceries, and baby necessities including food and diapers, bedding and blankets for comfort, medical first aid kits, and crucial hygiene products. In times of disaster, we swiftly engage in relief efforts. Collaborating with OneLiving.ca, we extend our impact, aiding individuals in finding not just jobs but safe havens to call home. At Guru Nanak Food Bank, our mission transcends mere sustenance; we strive to nurture resilience, dignity, and a sense of security needed to take that pivotal step towards a better tomorrow.
